Emphasizing the entangled relations between humans and nonhuman others, Alexa Horochowski’s sculptures and installations draw formal and material inspiration from the natural world. Engaged with ideas surrounding ‘more-than-human’ geographies and the concept of the Chthulucene, the artist’s multidisciplinary practice explores how political upheaval and man-made climate change reshape the temporal construction of memory and meaning. While Horochowski resides in Minneapolis, her identity and practice are closely tied to the landscape of the Patagonia of Argentina, where she was raised.

Based in Minneapolis, Horochowski is a dual Argentine and American citizen. She holds an MFA from the University of Michigan, and a BA in Creative Writing and Journalism from the University of Missouri. Recent solo and group exhibitions include the Walker Art Center’s “Five Ways In: Themes from the Collection” (2020-present); the Rochester Art Center, “Beautiful Sky” (2019); Highpoint Center for Printmaking, “Vortex Drawings” (2017); and The Soap Factory, “Club Disminucion” (2014). Horochowski’s work is held in the permanent collections of The Walker Art Center and The Minneapolis Institute of Art, among other institutions.
