Iceland Diariesby Thibault
Jul 9 – Aug 20, 2022
The ethereal paintings in Sarah Thibault’s exhibition Iceland Diaries were painted en plein air during a residency in northern Iceland. With an alluvial palette of earth tones and the radiant silvers and pinks of Iceland’s midnight sun, the artist’s stark, intimately scaled canvasses of the fjords and peaks surrounding the fishing village of Skagaströnd evoke contemplation and isolation. Though Thibault’s paintings are adroit exercises in painterly practice and paeans to an unforgettable landscape, they are also intensely personal. Grieving the recent and unexpected death of her father, the artist tested the limits of her endurance in Iceland’s vast intemperate wilderness.
Tali Weinberg / Memories of Future Fires
In our Cinema, we present the special project Memories of Future Fires by Tali Weinberg. In the artist’s newest series of woven tapestries, Weinberg interweaves petrochemical-derived materials, plant materials, and landscape imagery to draw connections between climate crisis, fossil fuel extraction, and the buildup of toxic plastics in the earth, water, and our bodies.
