Rosario Güiraldes + Fidencio Fifield-Perez

Please join us for a public conversation in our Cinema between artist Fidencio Fifield-Perez and Rosario Güiraldes, Curator of Visual Arts at the Walker Art Center.

Fidencio Fifield-Perez was born in Oaxaca, Mexico, but raised in the United States. He received a BFA from Memphis College of Art and an MA & MFA from The University of Iowa. Fifield-Perez’s interdisciplinary practice centers the materiality of paper ephemera and the garden as a site of gathering and migration. He has been awarded the Eliza Moore Fellowship at Oak Spring Garden Foundation, 2024 McKnight Printmaking Fellowship, and inaugural Dr. Harold R. Adams Artist-in-Residence Fellowship at The University of Minnesota.

Fifield-Perez has been awarded artist residencies at The Studios at MASS MoCA, Ox-Bow, ACRE, Crosstown Arts, and the Galveston Artist Residency. He has exhibited at multiple institutions including The Cleveland Museum of Art, Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago, International Print Center New York, Crocker Art Museum, and Memphis Brooks Museum of Art. Fifield-Perez is Assistant Professor of Painting at University of California-Davis.

Güiraldes is Curator of Visual Arts at the Walker Art Center, where recent projects include the group exhibition Ways of Knowing and Walter Price: Pearl Lines. Her work spans contemporary and historical exhibitions across the United States, Europe and Latin America, with a forthcoming 2027 retrospective devoted to Afro-Brazilian artist, intellectual and political leader Abdias Nascimento.

Before joining the Walker, Güiraldes served as a curator at The Drawing Center in New York, where she organized exhibitions including Drawing in the Continuous Present and The Pencil Is a Key: Drawings by Incarcerated Artists, along with solo presentations of artists such as Xiyadie, Fernanda Laguna, Ebecho Muslimova and Guo Fengyi.
