Artmaking in a Pandemic

Join us for a panel discussion and Q&A in Dreamsong’s Cinema moderated by Rebecca Heidenberg with Regan Golden, David Goldes and Alexa Horochowski, who are included in our current exhibition, In Search of Lost Time. We’ll discuss their work in the exhibition and more broadly, their experience making art during a pandemic.

David Goldes examines historical scientific research into the nature of physical phenomena through experiments and constructs captured in photographs. Goldes pursued an education in science, with an M.A. in Molecular Genetics from Harvard University, before acquiring an MFA in Visual Studies Workshop in Photography, Rochester, NY. He taught as a professor at the Media Arts Department in the Minneapolis College of Art and Design from 1986 until 2017. Goldes is the recipient of of fellowships from the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, the Bush Foundation and the McKnight Foundation. The artist’s photographs are included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Art Institute of Chicago; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, Paris, among others.
Regan Golden received her MFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Golden depicts ecological change in the American landscape using drawing materials and altered photographs. Over the last decade her work has focused on urban plants as a source of healing, joy, and a way of understanding the impact of climate change locally. Her work with plants began with a grant from the Joan Mitchell Foundation in 2006, and she has also received grants from the Core Program, the Jerome Foundation, and the Minnesota State Arts Board. In the Fall of 2021, she joined the full-time faculty at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design as an Assistant Professor in Fine Arts.
Alexa Horochowski is a dual citizen of Argentina and the United States. Horochowski holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Michigan and a BA in Journalism from the University of Missouri. She has exhibited nationally and internationally at The Drawing Center, NYC; Braga Menéndez Gallery, Buenos Aires, Argentina; Diverseworks, Houston; Praxis, NYC/Miami; Minneapolis Institute of Arts, MN; Monique Meloche Gallery, Chicago, IL; Franklin Artworks, Minneapolis, MN; Franconia Sculpture Park, Shafer, MN; The Soap Factory, Minneapolis, MN. Horochowski has been awarded two McKnight Visual Artist Fellowships, a Jerome Emerging Artist Fellowship, several Minnesota Artist Initiative Grants, and a Bush Artist Fellowship. Horochowski is a Professor of Fine Arts at Saint Cloud State University, St. Cloud, MN.
