Dreamsong is pleased to share details on the gallery’s debut presentation at the Dallas Art Fair, featuring a solo presentation of recent paintings by Los Angeles-based artist Sarah Thibault (b. 1980, Minneapolis). In luminous palettes of vivid orange, dreamy pinks and blues and neon purple, they depict trees, mountains and volcanoes as embodiments of a vast range of human emotion and spirituality. Walks in the forest nearby Thibault’s home in Los Angeles reinvigorated the artist’s plein air drawing practice and led to a new body of work that will debut at the Dallas Art Fair.

Thibault’s series of tree paintings are based on studies she made of the McFall Oak while hiking in Glendale’s Deukmejian Wilderness. Threatened by the Station Fire of 2009 – LA County’s largest ever wildfire – the majestic 150-year-old oak was heroically saved by firefighters. Named in honor of the city manager who coordinated the rescue effort, the tree stands as a testament to bravery and marks a rare instant where nature’s gifts were both recognized and valiantly preserved. The artist’s reverent homage imbues the oak with a kind of talis-manic power and powerful mysticism.

Dreamsong is also presenting Cochayuyo (2014/2024) in the Sculpture Garden at the Dallas Art Fair, curated by Sara Hignite. The frozen strands of Cochayuyo (2014/2024), cast from a bull kelp specimen found on the Pacific coast of Southern Chile, harken to the ocean’s ceaseless flux. According to the artist, “Bull kelp (Durvillaea Antarctica), or cochayuyo as the local Chileans call it, attaches itself to the rocks at the edge of the Pacific where its tendrils sway dramatically and erratically in the aggressive surf like submerged Medusas with heads of living snakes.”
