NY Art Book Fair: Tamar Ettun / Lilit

April 25 – 28, 2024

548 W. 22nd St, New York, NY 10011

Lilit is an ongoing project and new installation by artist Tamar Ettun, presented in collaboration with Printed Matter and Dreamsong. In the 2nd to 7th centuries in Babylon, artist-healers created spells, drawings, and talismanic objects to trap demons like Lilit, an aerial spirit demon with Sumerian, Akkadian, and Judaic roots who was villainized as a dangerously sexual female entity. Revived by Ettun as an empathic demon, Lilit returns with a summon. Read her words as you climb the staircase, look out for her many faces as you ascend and find Lilit on the rooftop in the form of a monumental, breathing umbilical cord. The launch of a new risograph print and an artist book will accompany this project, both available at Printed Matter’s booth (P1).
